HINT: Bonus points if you took our popcorn along. Double bonus points if you email a photo of our popcorn at your holiday destination to contests@popcornpalace.com.
The Contest Rules are at the bottom of this post, but first, here’s our holiday in Galena:
Home to the 18th President. Ulysses S. Grant, the historic city of Galena is situated in the lush Mississippi valley and was founded in 1826, primarily as a lead mining community with shipping access along the Mississippi River. The Galena port was the busiest between St. Paul and St. Louis by the 1850s. Now, nearly 170 years later, the streets are lined by gaslights and the historic Desoto House Hotel, where Lincoln and Stephen A. Douglas once met, still welcome tourists like us! While there, we visited the local brewery (we all know how well popcorn and beer go together), the historic fire station, art galleries and went fishing in the Mississippi River.
Here are some photos from our trip to “The town that time forgot.” Now tell us about your summer vacation!

We went to Sandestin Florida this year. It was wonderful because it was our kids first experience with the ocean. It was great seeing their faces the first time they experienced tasting salt water and seeing sand crabs. It was a great family trip and hope we can go back soon.
ReplyDeleteBecause money is tight, we created our own "Staycation." We swam, we had backyard camp out, and made a game of finding all of the things we could do in our area that was FREE!
ReplyDeletemy vacation was me and my mom and brothers went to jordan lake! it was super fun!!!!!!!we went diving into 20ft water it was deep and what set the day of was i couldnt spend the day with my dad either......and all the popcorn was gone before i could get any!
ReplyDeleteThis was my summer to give back, I adopted some personnel from the nearby navy base and hosted several BBQ's over the summer.
ReplyDeleteWho won the other contest where you had to answer the questions? Will you be posting the winners soon? Thank you.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't go anywhere this summer. Instead, we had someone come to us... our new daughter. It's a bit tough to take a summer vacation with a tiny infant... Maybe next summer we'll stock up on PopcornPalace popcorn and take a road trip somewhere.
ReplyDeleteWe are in the same boat as Ken there. We have a little girl on the way and should arrive on the first of November. We are so excited! So summer vacation was cancelled for fall Celebration!
ReplyDeleteThanks! Mary

We spend a couple of days in the Florida keys snorkeling with our granddaughters. They live in California and we don't get to see them much so it was a real treat for us and them too. :)
ReplyDeleteWe took a road trip across the NE states. Spent 2 weeks on the road visiting places that I had only read about previously.
ReplyDeleteThis summer we had a huge 4th of july party with all of our friends and family in attendance. we never get to host everyone for holidays, so this was a big treat. we had a wonderful time visiting with everyone and sharing the holiday.
ReplyDeleteI went to Atlantic City for the weekend for the first time ever just last week! I'd never been to the Jersey Shore before even though I only live in NY. I spent a day at the beach in Ocean City then the next night went to see a Dwight Yoakam concert at Caesars Resorts Casino. Awesome concert!!! Didn't do any gambling but spent some time walking along the boardwalk and taking in the sights. Had a great time & got a much needed break. @OnlyMe3074
ReplyDeleteWe went to Maui and spent time with my son. He recently joined the Navy and will soon be in training for Navy SEAL. My heart aches but he feels this is where he is supposed to be. I have the most AWESOME son one could ever ask for! My memories are the fun we had on Ka'anapali Beach and the pictures I have of him drawing pictures in the sand with his feet! =]
ReplyDeleteWe celebrated Summer with our first vacation in 14 years! 5 days in Branson, MO with my hubby, 7 kiddos (it's been a busy 14 years!) and my mom. We did lots of tourist-y things and spent a little time with my fave great uncle & aunt. So glad we went when we did...Uncle Dale passed away only 2 weeks ago. I am so grateful that we took the time and got to see him 1 last time and that he & my aunt got to meet all of our kiddos. :)
ReplyDeleteMy family and I went to Laguna Hills, California to see my mom and dad. I just had a little girl and it was the first time her Grandparents saw her, they were sooo happy to finally get to hold her (it is their first grand child). :) I also got to see some really close friends and my husband got to go surfing, which he hasn't done for years :)
ReplyDeleteWe went to the beach! We love going to the beach in the summertime - it's one of our favorite destinations!
ReplyDeleteAnd, yes, we took your popcorn! We enjoyed the Pink Himalayan Salt...and Pepper popcorn. It was delicious - and a BIG hit in the condo!!

We had a staycation kind of summer, but filled it with fun cheap activities. The lids favorite was our Annual Candy Tour - we packed a lunch and then visited all the candy shoppes in our county. The kids were allowed one small treat at each stop. Lunch was at a park to burn off the sugar high, then we made some more candy stops.
ReplyDeleteA good, memorable time was had by all. Now if there were only more popcorn shoppes!
Last December my family and I went to Kentucky to see my oldest son off before he left to fight for our country in Afghanistan. He is still there! But we are believing GOD to return my son to us safe and sound. We are also expecting to return to Kentucky, but this time to celebrate, and thank GOD for his safe return.
ReplyDeleteI went to Seattle, WA (from Chicago). It was the first time I have taken an airplane trip by myself (very proud of myself!). I went to visit my friend who moved out there a year ago for a job. It was so great to see her again. She took me to see the Space Needle, we walked along the Fisherman's Wharf & The Marketplace, we saw the man-made "Troll" under the freeway and had the best Salmon burger I ever had! It was a great time (but too short as always!). Can not wait to go back to see her again soon, I hope! BTW, they had some of the best home-made ice cream shops and even though they have the very first Starbucks, there are really no other Starbucks within miles of that one place... found that odd!.

my kids and I packed up and headed south. We spent two weeks in Naples visiting a good friend and her family that we haven't seen in about 5 years. It was a wonderful and very relaxing trip.. we didn't want to come home :(
